Walker, head of the banking department, has Issued his midsummer statement of the condition of the banks of Alabama and is very much gratified over the showing made. He ssys It Is the best mid-summer showing that the banks of the state have) ever made since he has been connected with the department. This Is the time of year when banks run lowest on account of the money the people hsive being used id making the orops, with very little coming in to replenish bank account The following comparison of -totals is made with the statement published twelve months ago, mlrsummer, 1916. i The total resources of all of the state banks art this date, as compared with June 80, 1916, ehow an Increase is all of the state banks of $6,500,000. The total deposits In the state banks show an Increase of $7,000,000 at this time over what they were on June 80, 1916.

The deposits In the savings departments of the various banks show an Increase of $1,600,000, VdSIs over drafts have decreased $34,000. This Is a splendid showing, one of which the state should feel proud. Tverybody knows that we have gone through a very depressed year and yet the deposits In the state banks have Increased over wnat they were a year ago, and tljaf, too, In the middle of the summer, when money is always very scarce In this agricultural state.
