The four competed Saturday evening in the Carolyn Blount theater at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

The festival is a national program sponsored by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the National Broadcasting Co. The recommendation by the Gospel According to Esther" (a new musical with music and lyrics by Joe Scarsborough), directed by Edmond Williams; Alabama State University, ntozake shange's "colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf," di- rected by Michael Howley. The judges also nominated 19 students, who will have an opportunity to compete for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships. Antoinette James and E. Faith Harris (Alabama State University). The winning plays will be screened in December to choose the finalists for regional competition. The law carries a maximum penalty of a fine and one year in jail, if convicted. "It will be interesting to see if politics interferes with the enforcement of the law," said Mr. Katopodis.

Chief Deputy Frank Rogers of the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department said the arrest of Mr. Agnew was the first under the Fair Campaign Practices Act. He said the case is expected to be heard in district court within 10 days. Mr. Agnew said last week the paper made a mistake when it left off the information required on political advertisements.

He also said his group, Concerned Citizens for Better Government, is not registered with the secretary of state's office, as required under the law, but plans to do so. Jesse Seroyer to talk to witnesses and to investigators who have worked on the 25-year-old case. "If there is any lead that can be followed, we will do that," Mr. Siegelman said, "and it will certainly be a high priority with this office to prosecute anyone who can be prosecuted." Claude Wesley, whose daughter Cynthia was killed in the blast, said he was pleased by Mr. Siegelman's interest, but isn't counting on more convictions.

"I'm not looking forward to a whole lot, but I'm proud that somebody at this time is trying to get something going, that somebody is still interested in it," Mr. Wesley said. "We're just going to wait and see what happens." Mr. Siegelman said representatives from his office will probably meet with Mr. Eddy.

Mr. Eddy said he was skeptical about Mr. Siegelman's interest. "I haven't heard from anybody (with the attorney general's office) and I don't expect to," Mr. Eddy said.

Vietnam War POWsMIAs Remembered Staff Report Military cadets throughout the nation will pause today to remember the 2,387 Americans whose fates remain unknown since they were taken prisoner or declared missing in action during the Vietnam War. Activities are planned today at three Montgomery campuses as part of national POWMIA Week, said Capt. Denise Bailey, an Air Force ROTC instructor at Alabama State University. Air Force ROTC units at ASU, Auburn University at Montgomery and Huntingdon College will participate in the activities. "Almost 20 years later there are POWs still missing' Capt.

Bailey said. ROTC cadets will wear red ribbons for the POWs and the MIAs, and candlelight vigils are planned. At 7:30 a.m. today students will raise the black and white POW MIA flag at their schools. The flag is a silhouette of a prisoner of war.

At 6 p.m.. ASU students will dedicate a room in honor of the missing soldiers, and at 6:30 p.m. students will gather at the campus flagpole to observe a candlelight vigil and moment of silence, she said. Mr. Siegelman's announcement that he had put his chief investigator on the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church came on heels of the 25th anniversary of the violence and Gary Tucker's claim that he and a friend planted the bomb, which killed four black girls. Authorities have said the claims by Mr. Tucker, a terminal cancer patient hospitalized in Tuscaloosa, were untrue.

Mr. Siegelman said his actions were not prompted by Mr. Tucker's highly publicized claims.
