WARD, LELIOUS Lelious Eugene (L.E.) Ward, of the Reta community, age 84, passed away at his home on January 31, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth, daughters; Denise Ward (Marvin Pearman) and De-lores McGill, grandchildren; Renee Toombs (Scott), Shannon Pelt (Frank) and Lori McGill Kilpatrick (Stephen), great-grandchildren; Wyatt and Cheyenne Pelt, Cor-bitt and Cason Toombs; brother John Ward (Virginia); sister Alice Kay Shoemaker (Johnny). He is the son ol the late K.T and Mavis Murphy Ward of Troy, Al.

Mr. Ward served in the US Marine Corp during the Korea Conflict and was active in the Townsend Detachment Marine Corp League. He was a master Mason member of Reta Masonic Lodge 223 and served many years as board member of the Pintlala Water System. He was an active member ol the Hope Hull United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Funeral services will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery on Monday February 3, at 1 1 a.m.

He was a 1 988 graduate of Prattville High School and served in the Navy during the Gulf War on the USS John Kennedy Air Craft Carrier in Hre Control. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged as a Disabled War Time Veteran when he was only 23 years old. He battled Type I Diabetes and complications from his illness for many years. Annie Rebecca Phillips Beshears was born January 29, 1 929, in Linden, AL. She graduated from Linden High School where she earned membership in the Beta Club and was voted "Prettiest Girl" in her senior year.

She and her husband lived most of their adult lives in Montgomery and attended Morningview Baptist Church. Rebecca served as the church hostess at Morningview lor several years; a job easily fulfilled as she was an outstanding organizer and cook. Her talents in the kitchen, friendly personality and eye lor decorating secured her a position at Rrst Baptist Church in the early seventies where she catered wedding receptions and served as the church hostess for many years. In addition to cooking, Rebecca loved fbwer gardening, antiquing, sewing and, most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She influenced the lives of four generations and will be remembered with love, admiration and respect.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, William Walter Beshears, her parents, W. and Katie Marie Pharr Phillips, her brother W. E. Phillips and her sister, Katie Marvel Phillips Miller. She is survived by her brother, B.

S. Smith, 67, passed away on January 25, 2014 following a long and valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She is survived by her husband of 43 years. Nelson "Smitly" Smith, son, Guy (Quinn), and grandchildren, Naomi (9), Samuel (7), and Violet (2). Throughout her full and active life, she enjoyed her time as an Army spouse, her work as a church secretary at Grace Episcopal Church, and her board memberships with Friends of the Governor's Mansion and the Renascence Reentry Program. But most of all, she loved her time with family and friends.

Becky loved the Lord and in her last days, that close relationship gave her wisdom, faith and comfort. She was not afraid of death because she was looking forward to being in His Holy Presence and with others who preceded her in death. Her family and friends from many different parts of the United States and overseas, were blessed by her long life and generous, gracious spirit. Ruth left her high school teaching career to marry (1943) Carl Raymond Carlson (who pre-deceased her in 1993) and become a devoted homemaker and Diplomatic Corps hostess. She was always active in Christian Science churches wherever they lived. She moved to Montgomery with Ray, an Air Force officer whose last assignment was at Maxwell Air Force Base. After his retirement in 1 978, they so loved IMng in Alabama they settled here, serving their community in many different ways.

In addition to church work in Montgomery, Ruth tutored adults in reading and conducted tours at the Alabama State Judicial Building. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Rae Carlson ol Chicago, and her sons Stephen and Roland both ol Austin, TX. They join with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren in celebrating her place in their lives. The family will gather lor a private service. Mrs. Young retired in 1985 after a rewarding career in senior health care.
